Strengthening our commitment to patient safety through ANTT gold accreditation
Sciensus is proud to announce the presentation of our latest data at the recent ANTT conference, highlighting our commitment to patient safety and clinical excellence. We have become the first national community care provider to achieve and retain the prestigious Aseptic Non-Touch Technique (ANTT) Gold Accreditation. This achievement reflects the high standards of our skilled nursing care at home, supporting our integrated service offering that helps accelerate patient access to medicines across Europe.
ANTT® is designed to minimise microbial contamination during all invasive procedures, from IV infusions to wound care. It’s based on protecting “Key-Parts” (like syringe tips) and “Key-Sites” (like insertion points) through core principles: standard precautions, non-touch technique, and aseptic fields.
This accreditation demonstrates our success in standardising ANTT across 26 teams, resulting in a sustained compliance rate above 90% with aseptic techniques. This rigorous adherence to best practice has directly translated into measurable patient safety improvements. Our data shows a significant decline in total infections, with a 35% reduction in microbiologically confirmed cases since 2022.
“Because of our direct, nurse-led patient relationships, Sciensus is uniquely positioned to identify care improvements, informed by both audits and staff feedback,” Helen Adshead QN, Specialist Practice Development Nurse at Sciensus, explained. “Our ANTT Gold Accreditation promotes accountability and strong clinical governance, proving that our unrelenting commitment to excellence and safer care is an initiative that is truly driven from within our own clinical teams.”
Our success is underpinned by a robust clinical practice framework, featuring comprehensive e-learning, interactive inductions, and real-time tracking across our workforce. The results have been overwhelmingly positive for our clinical teams as well. A pilot survey found that 100% of new starters reported applying ANTT consistently, with 75% noting Sciensus’ training as more rigorous and in-depth than prior experiences. Staff feedback confirms a deeper understanding of best practices, leading to safer care and positive reports of noticing fewer infections compared to previous settings. As stated by one of our team: “Training was a lot more in-depth at Sciensus and also gold standard.”
This replicable model offers a blueprint for elevating aseptic standards across the community and homecare sector, ultimately leading to improved patient outcomes, such as reduced healthcare-associated infections (HCAIs).
